CLIENT PROFILE

A Global Semiconductor Leader With a Security Compliance Gap That Could Not Stay Hidden

Semiconductor manufacturing company is a global leader in data infrastructure semiconductor solutions, headquartered in Santa Clara, California, serving hyperscalers, cloud, enterprise, and carrier infrastructure markets. With over 6,500 employees across 20 or more countries and annual revenue exceeding $5 billion, Semiconductor manufacturing company’s IT infrastructure is correspondingly complex.

The Windows infrastructure estate alone spans more than 900 servers across on-premises, AWS, and Azure environments, supported by more than 40 Active Directory domain controllers, global VDI pools, and a sophisticated identity and access management ecosystem managed through Microsoft Active Directory, BeyondTrust PAM, and CrowdStrike. Managing that environment to the security standards a global semiconductor company requires is a significant operational undertaking, and when TRUGlobal assumed responsibility, the evidence suggested it had not been meeting that bar.

BUSINESS CHALLENGES

47 Projects Stalled, 42% Compliance, and an Infrastructure That Did Not Monitor Itself

The challenges inherited when TRUGlobal assumed responsibility for this environment were not isolated issues. They were the accumulated consequence of an infrastructure programme that had lost momentum across every dimension simultaneously.

  • Security Compliance at 42%: The Windows server estate security compliance posture stood at 42%, well below the enterprise target. Qualys-identified vulnerability backlogs including Critical and High findings were unaddressed across hundreds of servers. This was not a minor gap. It was a posture that would not survive a security audit or a serious incident investigation.
  • Manual Server Provisioning With Systematic Gaps: Server provisioning was entirely manual. When new servers were built outside Windows Operations, standard security agent installation, covering CrowdStrike Falcon, Cortex XDR, BigFix, and LogicMonitor, was handled through email requests. The result was delays, inconsistencies, and servers entering production without the baseline security coverage the environment required.
  • 47 Infrastructure Projects at Zero Progress: 47 in-flight infrastructure projects had no measurable progress when TRUGlobal assumed responsibility. These included PAM implementation, security baseline hardening, Active Directory OU restructuring, and cloud SMTP modernisation. Projects had been initiated but not driven to completion, leaving critical security and operational improvements in a permanent holding pattern.
  • Service Account Policy Enforcement Broken: Service accounts with Password Never Expires flags were bypassing password policy enforcement across the estate. Automated expiry notifications were pulling incorrect data, leaving critical service accounts in a non-compliant and vulnerable state. This was a control gap that had gone undetected.
  • No Proactive Infrastructure Monitoring or Automation: No proactive automation existed for LDAP failure detection, DNS health monitoring, DHCP scope monitoring, or inactive admin account management. All of these are key vectors for infrastructure outages and security incidents. The absence of automated detection meant the environment was entirely dependent on reactive ticket resolution.
  • OS Lifecycle Management Uncontrolled: Dozens of Windows 2012 R2, 2016, and 2019 servers were operating at end-of-life or one version behind the compliance target, with no structured upgrade programme in place to address the accumulating lifecycle risk.

The testimonial from Semiconductor manufacturing company’s CISO captures the state at handover directly: 47 open infrastructure projects at zero progress and a security compliance score they were embarrassed to report. What was needed was not a task list. It was a complete programme reset across automation, compliance, security controls, and project delivery simultaneously.

TRUGLOBAL SOLUTION

Automate the Repeatable. Harden the Foundation. Drive the 47 Projects Forward.

TRUGlobal’s approach was built across three parallel tracks: automating the manual and repetitive processes that were creating compliance gaps and operational overhead, hardening the security baseline across the Windows infrastructure estate, and taking direct ownership of the 47 stalled projects with a structured delivery methodology.

Rather than addressing symptoms individually, the engagement was designed to shift the operating model of the Windows infrastructure function from reactive and manual to proactive, automated, and continuously monitored. Every automation deployed, every security control implemented, and every project completed was designed to reduce the ongoing dependency on reactive human intervention.

Core Technologies: BigFix  |  Active Directory  |  ServiceNow Flow Designer  |  BeyondTrust PAM  |  CrowdStrike Falcon  |  Qualys  |  CIS Level 1 Benchmarks  |  GPO  |  Cortex XDR  |  LogicMonitor  |  Azure PIM
ZERO-TOUCH PROVISIONINGA 3-tier zero-touch server provisioning automation was delivered using BigFix baselines, Active Directory security groups, and ServiceNow Flow Designer. Every newly provisioned Windows server now automatically receives all standard security agents and monitoring tools without human intervention, closing the email-based gap that had left servers entering production under-protected.PROACTIVE AUTOMATION SCRIPTSSeven proactive monitoring and remediation automation scripts were designed and deployed covering LDAP failure detection, Password Sync failure monitoring, Service Account password expiry notification, DHCP scope monitoring, DNS failure and DC issue identification, Critical Server system drive space management, and auto-disabling of inactive Admin, DA, and CA accounts.
BEYONDTRUST PAM INTEGRATIONA BeyondTrust PAM and ServiceNow integration was implemented, onboarding 38 or more Semiconductor manufacturing company servers to BeyondTrust Local Admin Management, with the full Privileged Account Lifecycle Management automation covering account creation, rotation, and deactivation in active delivery.SERVICE ACCOUNT REMEDIATIONThe Password Never Expires misconfiguration was identified and corrected on critical service accounts across the estate. The automated expiry notification pipeline was repaired and Fine-Grained Password Policy precedence controls were initiated for high-privilege accounts, closing the long-standing security control gap.
CIS BASELINE HARDENINGCIS Level 1 Security Baseline hardening was implemented across Domain Controllers and infrastructure servers using GPO-based deployment, with phased rollout beginning with pilot OUs and expanding to 239 infrastructure servers across the estate.OS LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENTA structured OS Lifecycle Management programme was executed, upgrading 65 or more servers from Windows 2019 and 2016 to Windows 2022 and 2025, with server-owner confirmation workflows, change management governance, and rollback procedures embedded in every upgrade to protect continuity.

The 47 stalled projects were not addressed as a separate workstream. They were tracked and progressed as an integrated part of the same programme, with the automation and hardening work generating the capacity and the compliance framework within which the project backlog could finally be driven to completion.

BUSINESS OUTCOMES

COST EFFICIENCY

The Financial Weight of a 42% Security Compliance Score

A security compliance posture of 42% is not just a metric. It is a risk liability. In a global semiconductor company operating across hyperscaler, enterprise, and government customer segments, an infrastructure estate with hundreds of unaddressed Critical and High vulnerabilities represents exposure that, in the event of an incident, translates directly to incident response cost, regulatory consequence, customer notification obligation, and reputational damage. The cost of remediating those vulnerabilities proactively is a fraction of the cost of managing the incident that their exploitation would trigger.

The zero-touch provisioning automation addresses a different class of cost. Every server that was previously provisioned without complete security agent coverage was a server operating outside the compliance boundary for however long it took the email-based request to be actioned. Each of those gaps represented an uncovered security surface and, in a Qualys-monitored environment, a recurring compliance finding that required manual remediation. Eliminating the manual step eliminates the gap at source, and that elimination compounds across every server provisioned going forward.

The seven proactive automation scripts carry a compounding return that is harder to quantify precisely but straightforward to characterise. An LDAP failure that is detected and remediated automatically before it causes an authentication outage does not appear in the incident log. A DNS failure caught by automation before it degrades application connectivity has no ticket, no bridge, and no post-incident review. The cost of those prevented incidents is invisible by design, and that invisibility is the point. Organisations that invest in proactive infrastructure automation consistently report reductions in reactive incident volume of 30 to 50% within the first year, directly reducing the operational overhead that had been absorbing L2 engineering capacity.

47 projects at zero progress. 42% compliance. An infrastructure that could not monitor itself.
TRUGlobal changed all three. At once.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL

In Their Own Words

“When TRUGlobal took over, we had 47 open infrastructure projects sitting at zero progress and a security compliance score we were embarrassed to report. Within months, they had built automation we did not know was possible in our toolset, driven our compliance score above 90%, and given us an infrastructure that actually monitors itself. That is the kind of proactive partnership we were looking for.”
